September marks a definite change in our weather, and all the plants actively growing sense the change and begin to prepare for the harvest time. And so it begins. Apples, tomatoes, peppers, squash, herbs, flowers…..

This year I’ve been saving flower seeds to plant in areas for the bees and other pollinators. I also discovered natural colorants for my homemade soap and will be drying down all the hibiscus blooms to add to my collection.

It’s a time for ingathering and the beginning of the Jewish calendar with a series of High Holidays – Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot followed by a new beginning of our Torah cycle (these always fall on or around my birthday – my portion is B’risheet). Every year I learn new things about these special biblical holidays and enjoy sharing them with our friends and family.

May you find peace and blessing in this new year.
